Activity Name: Appreciating Ancient Chinese Performing Arts: Acrobatics

 

Activity Objectives:

 

1.Appreciate Chinese performing arts and gain a basic understanding of Chinese culture.

2.Experience the joy of acrobatics.

 

Activity Description:

Through appreciating acrobatic performances where performers manipulate different objects called props, children will learn about the continuous hand skills used to throw, toss, and catch various objects in the air, creating visually stunning effects. The most common props used in juggling are specially designed balls, rings, clubs, hats, or plates. During this activity, performers demonstrate the acts of diabolo spinning, throwing octagonal handkerchiefs, and plate spinning, allowing children to try manipulating the props and experience the fun of acrobatics.

Activity Name: Young Children’s Wing Chun Experience

 

Activity Objectives:

 

1.Appreciate Chinese martial arts performances and gain a basic understanding of Chinese culture.

2.Experience the joy of Wing Chun and allow students to grasp the essence of traditional Chinese martial arts.

 

Activity Description:

Through appreciating the Kung Fu performances of a Chinese martial arts instructor, children will learn basic Wing Chun techniques and have the opportunity to experience Wing Chun firsthand, gaining an initial understanding of Chinese martial arts.

Activity Name: Lunar New Year Celebration

 

Activity Objectives:

 

1.Learn about the origins and customs of Lunar New Year and develop a sense of identity as Chinese individuals.

2.Familiarize with traditional Chinese attire.

 

Activity Description:

Through storytelling, children will learn about the origins and customs of Lunar New Year. They will also engage in free play activities related to Lunar New Year customs, such as simulating firecracker lighting, using red balloon sticks to scare away the mythical beast “Nian,” experiencing a lion dance, and learning about traditional Chinese musical instruments. The celebration will conclude with a reunion lunch.

Activity Name: Dragon Boat Festival Celebration

 

Activity Objectives:

 

1.Learn about the origins and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival.

2.Understand the process of making rice dumplings for the festival.

 

Activity Description:

 

1.Through instructional videos, children will learn about the origins and customs of the Dragon Boat Festival.

2.Using various art materials, they will design unique dragon boat hand puppets.

3.They will have a hands-on experience of making rice dumplings.

4.They will simulate the process of paddling a dragon boat using a cardboard box and sponge sticks.

Activity Name: Designing Blue and White Porcelain Vases

 

Activity Objectives:

 

1.Learn about the characteristics of traditional Chinese porcelain – blue and white porcelain vases.

2.Identify the patterns and designs found on blue and white porcelain vases.

 

Activity Description:

By appreciating blue and white porcelain vases and examining different patterns and textures, children will design their own blue and white porcelain vases. They will then paint sunflowers, blending Chinese and Western cultures.

Activity Objectives:

 

1.Familiarize with the style of Chinese traditional painting.

2.Understand the relationship between ink density and water quantity through painting Chinese art.

3.Experience painting Chinese art using materials such as rice paper, brushes, and ink.

 

Activity Description:

Through appreciating Chinese landscape paintings and becoming familiar with the tools used in Chinese painting, children will have their first experience of painting Chinese art.
